Treadmills
are one of popular and important pieces of fitness equipment
you can purchase. They are so versatile that anyone can use, which
means everyone can enjoy the health benefits that come with it.
It’s an
indoor exercising device used to allow for the motions of running or
walking while staying in one place. The motor device is a belt system
operated by an electric motor connected to a circular run of material,
where the top of the belt moves to the rear so as to allow a runner to
run an equal and necessarily opposite speed. |
The speed of the run can be adjusted to the rate at which the belt
moves is the rate at which the runner or walker moves.
Treadmill use tips
1.
When you first start using a treadmill, you may loose your balance as a
result of the movement of the belt. It is important to start by holding
onto the treadmill handles. Once you gain confident and your balance
improves, you can let go and mover your arms as though you were walking
or jogging down the street.
2.
Start with walking and gradually increase speed on a flat surface until
you feel comfortable with the speed and balance. This will allow your
muscles proprioceptors (sensors that detect the various forces place on
the body) to prepare for the increases in speed and incline that you
choose to implement.
3.
Proper footwork during treadmill use is very important, overstressing
the muscles and joints by inappropriate footwork can lead to injury.
Flexibility is an essential part of fitness, especially in exercise
where long, supple muscles are important. The correct way to use your
foot is, as foot comes forward and your heel strikes the platform,
raise your toes and roll forward onto the outside of your foot (but
keep the entire shoe sole on the platform). As your foot passes under
your body foot, maintaining pressure until your toes leave the
platform.
4.
Controlling your hip movement is very important during treadmill use;
inappropriate hip movement can lead to injury. Allow your hips to
rotate naturally with the forward and backward movement of your legs.
Concentrate on keeping your shoulders relaxed and facing forward.
5.
During treadmill use let your arms swing naturally by your sides in
opposition to your legs in the same forward and backward direction as
your hips and legs. When increasing speed, bend your arms at a slight
right angle and swing them faster in rhythm with your legs.
6.
Know where the safety button is located; this button is designed to be
used if there is an emergency. Is usually red button and once it
pressed it will bring the treadmill to a rapid halt. In combination
with side or front rails, these stop buttons are designed to make the
user feel more at ease when exercising.
