I know it is hard; trust me, many people struggle with the holiday seasons, including myself. I don’t necessarily avoid all the yummy foods that are very irresistible. Instead, I tend to exercise more than I should, to burn off those extra calories I have consumed.

If you usually exercise 2 to 3 times a week, exercise at everyday for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Not only would you burn those extra calories, your body also learns how to get rid of fat without storing it. That is the tricky part and why we need to stay fit on a treadmill on a regular basis. Rather than storing fat, if you burn it straight away, you don’t have to control your self and feel miserable during holiday season, simply because you can't have some sweets.

What is the best way to stay fit on a treadmill for the holiday season?

Interval training is the best treadmill exercise to burn calories fast for a short time, and they are a great way to stay fit on the treadmill for the holiday seasons. Treadmill interval training is a high intensity workout that will make you sweat, sore and burn fat. If you have a home treadmill, or have access to a treadmill, it’s good to do 30 to 45 minutes of treadmill interval training.

Example of a 30 minute treadmill interval workout routine:

Slow down and decrease the speed to a speed you are comfortable with. This is a recovery time to give you time to catch your breath.

3 minutes

Run on the highest speed that you can cope with for 2 minutes, the idea of this is to sprint increase your heart rate.

2 minutes

Decrease incline 1 % for every 15 seconds

2 minutes

Increase incline 8 to 10%, keep the speed moderate until you reach Level 8 RPE

2 minutes

Slow down and decrease incline to 0% to recover back to baseline.
